CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS. COLLATERAL
I know how to write DM and collateral that tells a story and evokes a response. I’ve experience across a range of sectors - including charity and financial. But here, I’d like to focus on pieces for three leading British cultural institutions:
The Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum
I wrote the fundraising DM that helped make the vision a reality.
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM. DARWIN CENTRE FUNDRAISING
“Where all the Past is Present” campaign The vision was for a new Darwin Centre. Where visitors could interact with millions of species from throughout the planets history.
Our campaign promised donors the chance to be part of delivering something monumental. Where “All the Past is Present”.
Outcomes: The campaign raised £8m and led to the construction of the largest purpose-built structure of its kind in Europe.
ROYAL OBSERVATORY GREENWICH. PLANETARIUM LAUNCH
“Infinity” Campaign
The onsite Peter Harrison Planetarium is architecturally significant not just for its 45 ton bronze dome. But for the precision use of symbolic angles throughout its construction. For instance, its 51.5 degree horizontal tilt, deliberately maps to the precise latitude of Greenwich.
Our collateral echoes this use of symbolic angles, through irregular cuts and folds. Then draws parallels with the way different civilizations use angles as a way to harness the infinite. And the symbolic, religious and scientific use of angles in pyramids and other key buildings of ancient civilizations who studied the stars.
Outcomes: Royal Observatory visitor numbers keep growing. And now stand at 800,000 people a year.
NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM. BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS
“The Leading Choice” campaign
Modern public institutions need major corporate sponsorship. But how do you prove the relevance of a museum of the sea in our technological age?
Our concept was to reframe NMM as a “museum of leadership”. An invaluable resource of the ideas, innovations and methodologies of leaders who helped Britain not just rule the waves, but global trade and scientific advance for centuries.
Outcomes: A focus on leadership brought in partnerships with leading companies across multiple sectors. Including Boeing. HSBC and BAE Systems.
